157th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

On Friday, 2 October 2026, the Embassy of India in Zagreb organised a floral tribute at the Mahatma Gandhi bust in Bundek Park, Zagreb, to
commemorate the 157th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The gathering brought together distinguished guests from Croatia, members of the Diplomatic Corps, university professors, Embassy
officials and Friends of India. Among the members of the Diplomatic Corps present were the Ambassadors of Iran, the Czech Republic and
Slovakia, as well as the Apostolic Nuncio to Croatia.

In his address, the Ambassador reflected on values of universal relevance — truth, non-violence, tolerance, human dignity and peaceful
coexistence. He also highlighted a historical connection between India and Croatia through Stjepan Radić, who saw Mahatma Gandhi as a source of inspiration and an example of leadership grounded in the pursuit of justice and the empowerment of people.

Prof. Ivan Andrijanić, Chair of Indology at the University of Zagreb, shared reflections on Gandhian philosophy and its enduring global
relevance. Yogacharya Jadranko Miklec, PM Yoga Awardee, also spoke about the life and legacy of Mahatma Gandhi.

The programme was further enriched by a musical performance by Nenad Bach, a Croatian-American singer, composer, producer and peace
activist.

The event also marked the International Day of Non-Violence, observed by the United Nations on 2 October, reaffirming the universal
relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s message of peace and non-violence.
